Re: Album Top 10 2007.

Yay, I was hoping for a thread like this.

1- Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

Definitely the best record I've listened to this year. I hope she pulls her act together and continues to do music as great as this. Only to be matched by:

2- Café Tacuba - SÃ*No

One of the most amazing and heartfelt re-inventions I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This is and will forever be my favorite band. Hopefully Gustavo Santaolalla's brain can put two and two together and make them and Nelly collaborate sometime.

3- The Fratellis - Costello Music

Going retro in style, just like Amy did. Every track and b-side is just amazing.

4- Björk - Volta

No words can describe her. I hope she never ever stops making music.

5- Jorge Drexler - 12 Segundos de Oscuridad

Incredible. And an album about lighthouses, just how cool is that? Probably the most gifted Latin American songwriter. If you want to check him out, listen to his cover of Radiohead's High & Dry featured in this album.

6- Bajofondo Tango Club - Mar Dulce

Their best album yet. Loving Slippery S.idewalks, loving the rest.

7- Michael Bublé - Call Me Irresponsible

The collaborations he does here are amazing. And he's finally letting loose a little and pouring more of his own style into his songs. Can't get enough of this guy's voice.

8- Radiohead - In Rainbows

Definitely my favorite Radiohead album. It's very cool that people like these guys keep the music business as it should be: about creativity and expression, not sales.

9- Radio 1 Established 1967

I LOVE covers, it's so cool when people want to do tributes to artists they admire or just for the hell of it. What a better way of celebrating 40 years of history than to have today's best artists playing covers?

10 -Grey's Anatomy Soundtrack, Volume 3

I doubt every song in the album is from 2007, but you gotta aplaude the music directors or whatever you call them that work in this show. They really showcase the truly talented musicians that should be leading the music business, in contrast to the commercial clowns they put on the radio and TV nowadays *cough*TIMBALAND*cough*

11- Lily Allen - Alright, Still

I had to do 11, couldn't leave her out. Love her to death, can't wait to see where she is going with his sophomore album and if she can replicate the huge success she had with this first one.

And the big letdown of this year was Zeitgeist, the long-awaited comeback of The Smashing Pumpkins:

It's not that it's good or bad, it's just not the side of their music I enjoy. I was hoping for another Mellon Collie/Adore. This to me sounds really amateur, like if it was their first record and they didn't know what they were doing, like they recorded it in someone's garage. Which is actually very cool, and the thing I liked the most about it. Ironic, what can arguably be the worst thing about the album is also the best. I hope they stay together for a LONG time. This just wasn't my cup of tea

2007 was a deaf year for me.. I barely heard anything new. But I'm already downloading all of Maca's TOP 10, with exception of three of them that I already have.

Re: Album Top 10 2007.

1. Raped Dolls - Ya no Estás

For me the best venezuelan rock band at the moment, I'm LOVING them

2. The Birthday Massacre - Walking with Strangers

Thanks to Jack I've discovered this ultra awesome band, I LOVE right now...

3. M.I.A. - Kala

The greatest alternative album I've heard. It's just amazing how can she talk about such tough topics like the war, poverty, etc. And her love to her roots, it's what really keeps me attached to her

4. Appena Prima Di Partire - Zero Assoluto

I've been loving them as well, thanks to my cousins that really liked them, and since they sang with Nelly, I like them even more...

5. Bjork - Volta

Exactly what Alejandro said, Bjork is just amazing

6. MarÃ*a José - MarÃ*a José

It amazed me that a ex integrant of such a great band like Kabah, could make an amazing work by herself

7. Juanes - La Vida es un ratico

I'm a great fan of the colombian music, maybe cuz I find it almost the same as the venezuelan... Juanes was more than colombian in this album

8. Andy y Lucas - Ganas de Vivir

Their best album in my opinion, I love all of their songs, specially Quiéreme

9. Matchbox Twenty - Exile on Mainstream

I'm discovering this band, and their work is simply amazing

and finally, the best album of the year

10. Eros Ramazzotti - E2

His masterpiece, a greatest hits album, with great mixes and collabos, oh, he's just amazing

Oh 2007 has been a great musical year for me, I've discovered a lot of bands/singers. And I already downloaded the Editors album and I'm about to listen to it

I have the complete b-sides of all of those albums in my list if you're interested

Re: Album Top 10 2007

oh yeah this is a good thread, because as khodr created one about the worst songs of 2007, so we also need to talk about the best of this year...

maca i gotta say that i'm really surprise with some of your choices, specially with the album that you picked for the first place, so amy's album... because i had no idea, i have never imagined before that you were an amy's admirer, that you like her music stuff (like i do)... so it's a good choice from you and it only proves that you have a good musical taste

along with amy's album my choices go to:

a beautiful lie by 30 seconds to mars
carnival ride by carrie underwod
call me irresponsable by michael bublé
not too late by norah jones
the evolution by robin thickle

and also
life in a cartoon motion by mika

i've picked these albums because in my opinion all of them are amazing, and their sonority sounds something fresh, you know, something which is different in the current music business... and they neither are plastic nor commercial at all... for artists like carrie underwood, norah jones, michael buble and so on, it matters to make, to a record an album with of the best quality and not if any certain song is going to be at number one spot from new zealand to canada

and from the all albums which i referred to i have a preference for back to black (and i hope amy will win the award for best album at grammy awards)

Ahh, what can I say? Great minds think alike

Are you kidding? "what kind of fuckery is this? you made me miss the Slick Rick gig (oh Slick Rick)"... Priceless!

Norah Jones released a new album? I had no idea. I don't know what it is, but there's something about her I don't like. She seems a little fake to me, I don't know. Her voice is amazing though.

And nobody deserves a Grammy or any other award more than Amy Winehouse. I really hope she gets it too.

yes alejandro...she indeed released a new album and it's called "not too late" and it was released in january, and it was her third studio album...

maybe you aren't remembering this album, as it was one of the first released albums of this year.... because i don't believe that you had missed it and also that you had no idea about it, but you consider her voice a little bit fake (as you said) , that's why it seems i was saying something new to you

i'm going to post the cover of that album and about the tracks which were released as singles were thinking about you and skinkin soon

so does this cover look familiar to you?
