19th Jan 2003 Nelly Furtado became a global phenomenon with her debut album Whoa Nelly! in 2000. Now, she?s all set to lend her voice to Deepa Mehta?s next project, Republic of Love. UK-based Talvin Singh is scoring music for the soundtrack. Confirming that Nelly will sing for the film, Talvin says, ?I?ll record with her in London. She has a fascination for Indian music and that?s why she agreed to do this project.? At last year?s MTV Europe Music Awards Nelly shocked everyone by singing Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein from Kabhi Kabhi, which was originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh and composed by Khayyaam. Nelly can also sing in Portuguese. According to a close friend of hers, she has even learnt Bhangda. Her personal faourites include Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Cornershop, an Indian band from UK. Nelly has also been taught some Bollywood ditties by her grandmother. She?s apparently a big fan of Asha Bhosle?s and last year made a club mix of Fly Like a Bird with Asha?s vocals in it. |
