Hi, I follow Nelly not from much time; I've began to follow her with Powerless and then I discover the other songs of Folklore. Then I discover Whoa Nelly! too, but when it was released it didn't impress me much (except songs like I'm like a bird, Shit on the radio, Turn offf the light and Hey man!). But the reviews and the charts says that Whoa Nelly! is better than Folklore, so what is the better?

I think that Folklore is better, and you???

Well lol most of the main contributers on these forums were here before Folklore so you'll find most will prefer Whoa Nelly. I'm still definitely going for Whoa Nelly. It took a while to grow on me at first, but I think you will really fall in love with it and see there's probably more and a longer lasting value in her first. The songs you said that impressed you off Whoa Nelly are the singles and the popular ones. I think if you give the others more of a chance they will more than likely surpass your opinion of the singles. Generally the fans around here seem to love one of the singles, whichever one got them into Nelly, then they prefer some of the other lesser known songs. I personally LOVE about 80% of the album and like the rest. Whereas with Folkore, if I'm in the mood to hear only the songs that I really LOVE I think they're Explode, Try, Build You Up and Childhood Dreams.

I wish I could be you and get to listen to Whoa Nelly for the first time again

Welcome to the boards by the way.

I don't think I can choose. I mean "Whoa Nelly!" is a fantastic album and I love it to bits. But Folklore really shows how much she has grown so. I love them both

Hi peewee,
I forgot to say that now I hear all the first album and I discover the other songs too and I like them.
Maybe in the 2000 when whoa nelly! was released I was too young, I was 16 only!
And then, Nelly sings in your language so you can comprend really the lyrics, but I'm Italian and itsn't easy understand all. However when I heard Powerless and Folklore I immediatly won't to examine the Nelly's univers, so I'm translating the lyrics to understand them. I hope I can translate whoa Nelly not only for me but foe italian fans!
Maybe you are right, for exmple today I heard all the day only Whoa Nelly!, and I love songs that I'm trynna finda way, Party, Well well, scared of you, My love grows deeper.
Please don't judge me a superficial fan, probably I need more time to spend with Nelly's music,
and then I hope that we argue again about this!!!
Can I ask you an opinion? Maybe Folklore is an more european album in it's contents?
Anyway I must thank Powerless because whit this single I discover Nelly Furtado!!!

Right now I think I love Folklore more, somehow someway. I think it's the pace that's on that album that I adore. Whereas Whoa Nelly, goes much slower but still good.

I don't like Folklore....I liked it at first...but after a few listens the novelty wore off and just ended up disappointing me completely. I gave my copy to someone never asked for it back since.

But Whoa Nelly rox my sox and I still listen to it on a number of occassions. And it's still definitely a lot more fun to listen to as well.

Both have good songs, yet they have a different feel. Folklore is more mature while Whoa Nelly had a bit more fire. When I like to listen to something soft and inspireing, then I'll go for Folklore. But if feel really up beat and happy, then Whoa Nelly. Both album have good songs.
